Police Defend Cop Whose Arrest Of Young Rapper Caught On Video

Progressive filmmaker Jason Pollock posted what has now become a viral video showing the arrest at Cumberland Mall.

SMYRNA, GA -- A progressive filmmaker and entrepreneur has posted a video, which has since gone viral, showing a Cobb County police officer arresting a 12-year-old African-American male at Cumberland Mall. Jason Pollock also posted his outrage over the incident on his Twitter feed, protesting the officer's treatment of the child. Also included in the clip is a woman who identifies herself as the boy's aunt, who is purportedly on the phone with the boy's father.

"Look how this officer [is] touching this young kid,” Pollock wrote. β€œHe would never be treating a little white kid like this.”

Cobb County police confirmed to the AJC the incident happened on Oct. 6, and has opened an internal investigation, reports Channel 2.

Cobb County Police Chief Mike Register told Channel 2 that Cumberland Mall management gave the child, Corey Jackson, a criminal trespass warning. Jackson is a young rapper who goes by the name Lil C-Note, and is known for trying to sell his CDs at local businesses, a practice the mall considers trespassing. Register said Jackson became so combative during the incident he tried to bend the officer's fingers back and strike him in the chest, alleged incidents that were not caught in the video.

Pollack's most recent Twitter postings include promotions of his film "Stranger Fruit," a film that advocates the reopening of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, MO, as well as protests over the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.
