Voters Head to the Polls on Super Tuesday
Polls are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It’s Super Tuesday as Georgians and voters from nine other states across the nation head to the polls to cast their vote for their preferred Republican presidential nominee.
Huffington Post Polling Editor Mark Blumenthal predicts that Mitt Romney will take Massachusetts, Vermont and Virginia. He also predicted a toss-up in Ohio, which he said could be the tiebreaker in the race. Howard Fineman, Huffington Post editorial editor, predicts the Ohio competition will be between Santorum, who will play up his west Pennsylvania roots, and Romney who will cater to the state’s political establishment. Blumenthal said the large number of evangelical Christians down South will make Georgia, Tennessee and even Oklahoma a toss-up between Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.
last week, Gingrich said scoring a win in Georgia is crucial to his campaign.

“I have to win Georgia, I think, to be credible in the race,” he said. “Because if I win Georgia, the following week we have Alabama and Mississippi and I think I’ll win both of those and we have a good opportunity to win in Kansas.”
The presidential preference primary isn’t the only thing on Cobb County voters’ minds. Voters in Powder Springs, Marietta, Austell and Cobb County will have the option to allow package sales of alcohol on Sundays. the measure should pass in all municipalities.

According to the Cobb County Board of Elections some voters have already placed votes. When early voting closed Friday, 11,205 Republicans, 883 Democrats and 91 non-partisan voters had cast their ballots. Additionally, as of March 2 Republicans had cast 2,886 absentee ballots, Democrats 253 and non-partisan voters 18. Jane Eveler, director of Cobb County Board of Elections, reported that voter turnout on election day for presidential preference primaries is usually in the low 30 percent range.
