Walton too much for Campbell

Raiders roll to a 49-7 Friday night win in Smyrna. Meanwhile, Lovett stays unbeaten with a road win while Whitefield Academy hangs tough in a seven-point loss at Class A third-ranked Wilkinson County.

Another road game for Walton and another convincing victory.

The Raiders had no trouble with Campbell in a 49-7 victory Friday to push their record to 3-0. Lassiter transfer Tyren Jones gobbled up 203 yards rushing and Walton's defense took advantage of three Spartan turnovers.

Campbell coach Harris Rainbow, who saw the Raiders often as a Wheeler player, calls Walton "one of the two or three best teams in the state."

Campbell's only score came late in the second quarter on a 37-yard pass from Ricky James to Arviel Jenkins. It doesn't get any easier for the Spartans, who fell to 0-3, as they travel to Powder Springs next Friday to take on state-ranked McEachern.

Here's The Marietta Daily Journal's game story.

In other action, Whitefield Academy played hard in a 17-10 loss at Wilkinson County, the third-ranked team in Class A. The Wolfpack threw an interception on the first play of the game and three plays later found themselves down 7-0.

And while Whitefield Academy managed just 118 yards of total offense on the night, the Pack defense came large Friday in holding the Warriors and their all-state quarterback David Whipple to only 219 total yards. On the injury front, Whitefield senior kicker Thomas East suffered a broken wrist in the loss.

The Wolfpack, 1-2, begin region play next Friday when they play host to Southwest Atlanta Christian.

And the Lovett Lions, ranked fourth in Class AA, improved to 3-0 with an impressive 19-7 road victory against Callaway. The Lions got short touchdown runs from Grant Haley (1 yard) and Luke Hart (5 yards), plus a pair of field goals from Brendan McGowan in the victory.  Here’s the game story from the LaGrange Daily News.

Up next for the Lions is a game at top-ranked and region rival Buford.
