Weekends were made for TV Sports

From the British Open to the Atlanta Braves to the Women's World Cup final, we've got it covered Smyrna-Vinings style.

Are you settled in this weekend watching the British Open being staged from Royal St. George’s in Kent, England?

You do know the Star and Stripes hasn’t won a golfing major in the last five tries and have claimed just five of the last 17 majors. Dustin Johnson, Lucus Glover and a few others from the good ole USA were in contention during Saturday’s third round play, so maybe America’s golfing major drought will come to a close this weekend.

But we know Atlanta’s Matt Kuchar, currently the world’s No. 7-ranked player, won’t be hoisting the Claret Jug come Sunday. He missed the cut by eight shots and is now winless in 16 events in 2011.

So maybe he needs a change of luck before the fourth and final major, the 93rd PGA Championship, commences at the Atlanta Athletic Club on August 8? Or maybe he needs a new golf bag design and this is where you come in.

Celebrating its partnership with the PGA – and the belief that golf teaches life-long skills and is a great activity for individuals and families alike – RBC Bank is hosting several upcoming events to engage Atlanta’s community and generate excitement for all ages this summer.

There are two RBC Bank locations in our Patch and , but if you make your way to the Mableton location at 620 Fontaine Road by next Friday, there you'll find the opportunity to design a golf bag for Kuchar.

A special computer design center at this branch will allow golf fans to choose from a variety of colors and textures to design their one-of-a-kind bag.

The winning design will be chosen by Kuchar and the winner will receive a VIP experience for two at the PGA Championship on August 10, including a meet-and-greet with Kuchar and a behind-the-scenes tour with a Golf Channel analyst. Kuchar will also carry the winning bag during a 2012 PGA Tour event.

RBC is also providing students aged 12-17 with a passion for golf an opportunity to participate in a free clinic on short game, golf etiquette and iron shots hosted by PGA Pro Anthony Kim. It will take place on Aug. 8 at St. Ives Country Club, and each participant will have the opportunity to compete for a $10,000 college scholarship provided by RBC Bank in partnership with RBC Wealth Management.

Participation is limited to the first 200 registrants (space was still open as of July 16), and see here to register

Staying within the arena of sports, the Vinings Business Association will be soon heading to The Ted. The "Vinings Business Association Night at Turner Field" is set for Aug. 16 when the Braves play host to the defending world champion San Francisco Giants.
