Whitefield Academy Claims 1st Place in Marching Band Competition
Smyrna, Georgia: The Whitefield Academy WolfPack Marching Band claimed a 1st place finish in the recent Greater Atlanta Marching Festival.
On Saturday, October 29, the Whitefield Academy Marching WolfPack band competed in the 39th Annual Greater Atlanta Marching Festival, held at Rockdale County High School in Conyers, Georgia. Whitefield won first place in Class A and received ratings of “Excellence” in Band, Drum Major, and Drum Line, and “Superior” in Color Guard. As the only private school among 16 schools competing, including public high school bands from Athens, Augusta and all over metro Atlanta, the students truly demonstrated skills and musicianship of the highest order.
Established in 1977, the Greater Atlanta Marching Festival is the oldest, continuously running marching competition in the state of Georgia. The Festival has provided a quality competitive program for high school bands from all over the state of Georgia, the southeast, and the United States.
This year’s performance by Whitefield, “The 2016 Major Motion Picture Show,” incorporated drill design by senior Daniel Justice who implemented a computer program to help plot the intricate marching steps and movements required to create the patterns and designs presented on-field by the WolfPack Band. “The Marching WolfPack is very proud of its long tradition of competing and winning numerous awards in strenuous marching band competition,” said Stacy Quiros, director of fine arts. These students work hard all year long to prepare the music and marching required in order to showcase a program of excellence.”
