Summer Transition Program Available at Legacy Academy Snellville

1. What is the Summer Transition Program?

Since 2010, the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning has offered a six week Pre-K Summer Transition Program to children scheduled to enter Kindergarten but who did not participate in Georgia’s Pre-K Program during the school year or children who needed additional help in preparing for Kindergarten. 

1. Is there a cost for the Summer Transition Program?

The STP is a free program, funded through the federal Child Care Development Fund (CCDF).  Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS).

1. What is the duration of the Summer Transition Program?

The STP at Legacy Academy Snellville will begin on June 3, 2013 and end on July 12, 2013.

1. Which children and families are eligible to participate?

Children who are eligible to attend Kindergarten next school year whose families meet the CCDF income requirements (85% of state median income).  Families must provide four weeks of verifiable income in order to determine program eligibility

1. Is Before/After care available?

Before and after care will be available at no cost to the families.  That tuition will be paid through the GA Childcare and Parent Services.

1. What information are families required to provide?

     Families are required to provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate, social security card, proof of residency, and financial documents to verify income eligibility.

7.      Are there any additional family requirements?

Parent(s) will be required to attend a once a week workshop that will be no longer than 1 hour. They will be on different topics such as: Math Activities for home, Literacy Activities for home, What to Expect in Kindergarten, etc.
