Two women, ages 19 and 39, survived the shooting that occurred Sunday in the 1000 block of North Hairston Road, police said.

One of the women is the boys' pregnant cousin, and the other is their aunt, WXIA-TV reported.

The shooting may have resulted from an altercation that occurred early Sunday, police said.

It happened after tensions arose during a football game that happened last week, WXIA-TV reported, citing warrants. On Sunday, Ellis was reportedly accused of approaching juveniles before a fight broke out, and the shooting occurred.

"No family should have to endure the senseless loss of children," DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson said at a news conference. "I stand before you today as a mother. No mother or father should have to bury their children. It truly goes against the laws of nature and expectation in our society."

Ellis faces two counts of felony murder and six counts of aggravated assault, police said.

"We continue to extend our deepest condolences to the families of the young victims. We recognize that their loss is unimaginable, and we stand with those who are grieving during this difficult time," police said in a news release.

"The DeKalb County Police Department and our community will not tolerate gun violence, and we remain committed to working together to protect lives and build a safer DeKalb County," police said in a news release."
