Former Collins Hill QB Is Honored

Heinicke is named a top freshman performer at Old Dominion.

Former star quarterback Taylor Heinicke has received a top honor for his play this past season at Old Dominion.

The freshman from Suwanee was named 2011 National Freshman Performer of the Year by the College Football Performance Awards, according to a news release from the Norfolk, Va., school.

Heinicke, who took over quarterback duties for the Monarchs in the second half of the season, finished by completing 211 of 307 passes with one interception and 25 touchdowns.

His name does not appear in the conference or national stats, since he did not played in the minimum 75 percent of games played to qualify. However, if his name did appear, his 265 passing yards per game would have ranked 18th nationally, his 160.2 pass efficiency rating would place him sixth nationally, and his 305.3 yards of total offense per contest would put him 10th nationally.

As a senior at Collins Hill, Heinicke led the Eagles to the semifinals of the AAAAA state playoffs.
