GCPS Releases New Redistricting Map

Plans altered in student shift involving Peachtree Ridge and Duluth clusters.

Updated April 15, 2011, 4:25 p.m.

Gwinnett County school officials Friday released a revised attendance map for schools involved in the proposed redistricting of the Peachtree Ridge and Duluth clusters.

Public input -- overwhelmingly opposed to the initial plan -- apparently forced some changes. The map's explanations say that Mason Elementary (Peachtree Ridge cluster) and Harris Elementary (Duluth cluster) will retain some of their current attendance zones for the coming school year. And Chattahoochee Elementary (Duluth cluster) will be affected.

Gwinnett school officials said Friday that about 600 students are now affected. The complete breakdown of the revised proposal is shown on the attached PDF file.

Now, 193 students would move from Peachtree Ridge HS in Suwanee to Duluth HS, and 129 from Hull MS in Suwanee to Duluth MS

The system plans to move students because of overcrowding at Peachtree Ridge High and Hull Middle.

The Gwinnett school board is scheduled to vote on redistricting Thursday, April 21. A public hearing is set for April 20.
