GCPS To Hold Lottery -- To Attend GSMST
The event will be Monday at GCPS headquarters in Suwanee to select from almost 700 applicants.
Overwhelmed by the number of students wishing to attend the , Gwinnett public school officials will use a lottery method for selection.
The lottery will be Monday, Feb. 13, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at , according to a news release.
The system received 696 applications by the Feb. 3 deadline to attend GSMST, but will accept only 350 students for next year's ninth-grade class. So, GSMST applicants have been assigned a lottery number and have been notified by email of their number, as well as the lottery time, date, and location. Those not selected via the lottery will go on a waiting list.

All numbers will be drawn, but prospective students are not required to attend the lottery drawing.
GSMST first opened in 2007 and graduated its first class last May.
