Gwinnett Braves Lose Rain-Delayed Contest

Charlotte's big third inning is decisive.

The Charlotte Knights scored five runs in the third inning Friday night and went on to a 7-5 victory over the Gwinnett Braves in Fort Mill, S.C. The game was delayed two hours and 37 minutes by rain.

The loss kept the G-Braves 1 1/2 games behind first-place Durham in the International League South.

Stefan Gartrell hit his 24th homer for Gwinnett. Tyler Pastornicky extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Starting pitcher Erik Cordier (3-8) took the loss.

The teams now shift to Coolray Field on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) in the home-and-home series.
