It's Official: These Gwinnett Schools Have Spirit, Yes They Do

3 Gwinnett schools honored as 2014 Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship winners.

Three Gwinnett County high schools—Meadowcreek, Berkmar and Lanier — were among 48 schools to earn the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.

The award is given to one team in each GHSA region for demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship during the 2013-14 school year. (Meadowcreek won in Region 7-AAAAAA, Berkmar in 8-AAAAAA and Lanier in 8-AAAA)

“The GHSA congratulates these member schools on their selection as region sportsmanship award winners,” GHSA Executive Director Gary Phillips said in a press release “We thank the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation [Georgia EMC] for their support of our schools and efforts to raise the emphasis on sportsmanship in all competitions.”

Since 2006, the GHSA and Georgia EMC have sponsored the award, which reinforces the GHSA philosophy: “Students, athletes, coaches, spectators and all others associated with high school activities programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty and
responsibility.”

The GHSA region secretaries select winners based upon the sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the school year.
