Bobby Gueh, a counselor at Lanier, says “This is a great opportunity to get the band back together.”
Although Winterfest started out as a simple school project for Lanier High School’s new Academy initiative, it has now turned into a full-fledged community event thanks to Molly Kunkle, Lindsey Crawford, Frank Martinez, and Avery Evans. All students were required to choose an academy to form a project-based learning concept.

In the department of the Public Service and Leadership Academy that involved philanthropy or community. This group of seniors decided not to just talk about helping the Gwinnett Children’s Shelter but bring the fundraiser for the amazing group to life.
The Gwinnett’s Children Shelter has recently gone through numerous changes in its program. The Shelter started out supporting only minor offense teens, to now being a home for homeless mothers and children of any age between infancy and seventeen.
The Winterfest goal is to help aid the Shelter through the transition period to eventually become an even greater charity for the community.
“Events like this are the reason I love living in a town like ours”, says Coach Ryan Proffitt, when he first caught word of this event.
His sentiments are shared by almost the entire Lanier Faculty, as well as numerous business owners which will be present at the event.
Sangeeta Solanki, manager of the Sugar Hill Tutoring Center, says she couldn’t be more excited, “This is such a great idea! I can’t wait to see how it brings our community together!”
