Love & The Beech Tree: 30 years later

The delicate gray bark of beech trees scars easily and is, therefore, an irresistible canvas for lovers’ initials and various other graffiti.  If you’ve ever walked the soft surface trail in Suwanee Creek Park, you’ve probably noticed a majestic old beech tree about halfway down the trail.  Unable to heal itself, its trunk is scarred with decades-old names and dates, one of which stands out above the others:   VANNA & SIV UORN 6/25/83

For several years, I’ve regularly walked past that beech tree and wondered, Who are Vanna & Siv Uorn?  Young lovers, perhaps?  Are they still together?  The land where this tree stands was not designated as Suwanee Creek Park until 2004, so how did Vanna & Siv Uorn come upon the beech tree in 1983?  A carving of such size and depth would have taken a significant amount of time to complete.  They must have been very sincere!

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of their chiseled profession of love, I thought it only fitting that I solve the mystery of these sweethearts.  I even went as far as to search for their names on the internet, but with only their first names and a vague location, my search came up empty.
