Made in the Shade at Suwanee Park

A project that has been in the works for months and has been a strong citizen priority is taking shape in Suwanee.

Construction workers began Tuesday (November 13) to install shade structures at the playground at Sims Lake Park. The playground area will be closed for approximately two weeks, though the rest of the park remains open.

Suwanee City Council approved $44,400 in June for the structures.

“Our citizens have expressed a great deal of enthusiasm for additional shade, particularly at the Sims Lake Park playground and Big Splash fountain,” Public Works Director James Miller said in a city news release. “We believe that these additions will make our award-winning parks even better.”

The shade fabric at Sims Lake Park will be forest green. The shade structures were purchased from Shade Systems, Inc., of Ocala, Fla., and are being installed by 5 Guys Contracting of Lawrenceville.

While the Sims Lake playground is closed, an alternate is PlayTown Park on Main Street near the Suwanee library branch.

Shade structures are expected to be installed at Town Center Park near the Big Splash fountain early in 2013.
