North Gets Eighth Straight Win in Convincing 44-14 Victory over Duluth

Donnie Miles and Joseph Jones combined for nearly 200 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns apiece to lead to a convincing 44-14 win over host Duluth, spoiling the Wildcats' Senior Night ceremonies.

It was North Gwinnett's eighth straight victory. Duluth will wrap its season up next week away against Mill Creek, while North Gwinnett hosts Peachtree Ridge in a showdown for the Region 7-AAAAA title.

Duluth (4-5, 2-4 in Region 7-AAAAA) tried to make a game of it through the first half, but a struggling offense kept the Wildcats from mounting any serious threat while the Bulldogs built a 20-0 lead.

North Gwinnett (8-1, 6-0) drove 59 yards in just seven plays on its first possession, taking a 6-0 lead on Joseph Jones' 1-yard run with 7:37 left in the opening period. The PAT failed, giving the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead.

Late in the quarter, the Bulldogs started another drive at heir own 41, this time needing six plays to cover 59 yards, building a 13-0 lead on a 31-yard keeper by Scott Hosch.

Later in the second, North Gwinnett took over at the Duluth 37 after a short punt, and Jones' second 1-yard touchdown run made it 20-0, Bulldogs with 1:48 left in the half.

The Wildcats got a breath of life after a change of possessions. North Gwinnett punted from its own 18, and Myles Campbell fielded the kick at his own 47, found a seam on the left side and raced 53 yards for a touchdown with just 10 seconds left in the half to cut the Bulldog lead to 20-7.

But the Bulldogs slammed the door in the third quarter, getting touchdown runs of 13 yards and 50 yards from Miles to go up 34-7 with 5 minutes left in the quarter.

After Henry Eneynihi scored on a 10-yard run for Duluth to make it 34-14 with 2:21 left in the third, North Gwinnett mounted yet another drive, and Jonathan Lewis' 24-yard touchdown run as time expired gave the Bulldogs a 41-14 lead. Alejandro Arroyane added a 21-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Anfornee Stewart went 11-for-21 passing for Duluth for 101 yards. Campbell led Duluth with 47 yards on nine carries, while Eneynihi added 42 yards and a score on five carries. Miles led the Bulldogs with 96 yards on eight carries, while Jones added 86 yards on 13 attempts. Hosch had an uncharacteristically ineffective night passing, connecting on just 7-of-13 attempts for 73 yards.

Duluth will wrap its season up next week away against Mill Creek, while North Gwinnett hosts Peachtree Ridge in a showdown for the Region 7-AAAAA title.
