Peachtree Ridge Plans No Protest of Playoff Outcome

'Judgment call,' Lions' athletic director says of development on game-ending touchdown vs. Brookwood.

Peachtree Ridge High Athletic Director Bill Holleman said Monday that he plans no protest of Friday's playoff loss to Brookwood in Suwanee because of a development on the game-ending touchdown in overtime.

"It's a judgment call" by the official on the play, which included a possible "clip" (block from behind) on a Lions defender near ball carrier B.J. Sammon. The score gave the Broncos a 30-27 victory and ended the Lions' season.

"It's non-protestable, which is as it should be," Holleman continued. "If it was a matter of protocol, something not being done right, that would be different.

"The game is over at this point."

The video also shows Holleman on the sideline apparently pointing to the spot of the possible penalty as the ball carrier entered the end zone. (The incident happens at about the 3:30 point of the video.)

"I felt like there was a block in the back" on the play when it happened, Holleman said, "but angles a lot of time don't tell the whole story."

Holleman noted that the Lions "had enough opportunities to win the game. ... Somebody has to lose."

For the Lions, it still was an 8-3 season under first-year coach Mark Fleetwood. "We're excited about prospects for the future," Holleman said.
