Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Voting Begins

Finalists are announced, with University of West Georgia students dominating.

The annual Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta is taking on a University of West Georgia flavor, at least as far as the T-shirt.

Voting has begun on the T-shirt design for the annual 10-kilometer road race that will be run again July 4. And three of the finalists were designed by students or graduates from the Carrollton school.

“The T-shirt design contest has become a tradition for the AJC Peachtree Road Race and is something that spectators and runners look forward to every year,” said Tracey Russell, executive director of the Atlanta Track Club, in a news release.  “We were amazed by the number of talented artists that submitted designs this year and can’t wait to find out the one the public chooses as the winner.”

Voting for the T-shirt design is open until April 30, 2012, at ajc.com/peachtree. The winning design, which will be unveiled on July 4 at the 43rd running of the race, will be featured on 60,000 AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirts. The winning artist will receive $1,000, and each of the four runner-ups will receive $100 for their efforts.

Finalists are Mallory Royal, graduate of the University of West Georgia; Caitlyn Weathers, photography student at the University of West Georgia; Rachel Campbell, graphic designer and founder of branding and creative design firm, Logos Atlanta; Clarissa Robinson; graphic design student at the University of West Georgia; and Jared Swafford, graphic designer.

The winning 2011 design also was created by a West Georgia student.

Finalists were chosen by a panel of judges representing the Atlanta Track Club, the AJC and local graphic artists.

Last year, more than 900 people from Suwanee entered the race.

Also, registration for the race ends Thursday.
