QuikTrip Near Closing on Suwanee Property

Public art to be part of development process.

The last quadrant of residential property at a major Suwanee intersection is about to go commercial.

QuikTrip could close in or before June on roughly half of a 3.9-acre parcel at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Satellite Boulevard. The entire parcel was listed at $2.5 million, agent David Barker said.

As part of the new development, QT officials are to appear at a city Public Arts Commission hearing on Thursday at City Hall to discuss art possibilities that include on-site displays.

Part of art-happy Suwanee's development process is to go before the committee to discuss public art, said Denise Brinson, Suwanee's director of economic development. Officials encourage companies to spend 1 percent of their development cost on art.

The land currently is owned by a couple that moved to a retirement home in Buford. Walmart and a strip mall occupy two other corners of the intersection.

Barker said there has been "a lot of activity" on the remaining part of the property not owned by QT. Suwanee officials rejected attempts in December to rezone the land for a car wash.
