Racist, Trump-Related Graffiti Found at Gwinnett High School

Swastikas, slurs and "build the wall" were among the messages and symbols written at Collins Hill High School.

SUWANEE, GA — Swastikas, racial and ethnic slurs and slogans related to the recent presidential election were among the graffiti found Tuesday at a Gwinnett County high school.

The graffiti was discovered early Tuesday by wrestlers and their coaches at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, according to Gwinnett County Public Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach.

The spray-painted messages, which have since been removed, were at an area in the back of the school, including five trailers and the school's football stadium.

"Our goal is to find out who's behind this damage and prosecute them," Roach said in a news release. "It's upsetting to those at school as well as those in the community. It's sad that people act out this way, more so that they do it at a school."

In addition to racist and homophobic slurs, the graffiti included the words "Build the Wall" and "Trump" and at least one obscene insult of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

In an email sent to students and other members of the Collins Hill community on Tuesday, Principal Kerensa Wing called the graffiti disappointing, but said it does not define the school.

"As we continue our Thanksgiving break, I am not disheartened by this incident as I know that this type of behavior does not define our school community and for that I give thanks," she wrote.

Roach said a school resource officer was notified about the graffiti and is investigating the incident.

This was the second racially loaded incident at a Gwinnett County high school that's been tied to the results of the presidential election.

Last week at Dacula High School, a Muslim teacher who regularly wears a head scarf received an anonymous note telling her the scarf "isn't allowed any more" and that she should use it to hang herself.

Mairah Teli linked the note, which included images of the United States flag and was signed "America," to Donald Trump's election in a Facebook post that went viral.
