Scam Alert: Callers Pose as Suwanee PD, Say You Owe Money to Pay Fine
Callers scare you into thinking you're in trouble and have to pay now.
The Suwanee Police Department has posted a scam alert on its Facebook page about a bogus phone call claiming you have to pay a fine.
The post read, in part:
“The Suwanee PD has received several calls today [Friday, May 16] that area residents are being contacted by someone claiming to be from the Suwanee PD. The person says that there is a complaint against the person being filed by the Suwanee PD and asking residents to call a 202 number and pay a fine.”

Similar scams have been reported from all around metro Atlanta. Callers posing as sheriff’s deputies, court officials and the IRS have had the same tactic — scare you into thinking you’re in trouble to get you to fork over your money.
As is the case on all these kinds of scams, Suwanee PD says no agency would ever contact residents seeking any kind of payment.
