Small Hotel Fire Forces Temporary Evacuation

A small fire started by a wall-mounted HVAC unit caused moderate damage at a Suwanee-area hotel.

Gwinnett Fire said Courtyard by Marriott on Celebration Drive was briefly evacuated by the Thursday morning blaze. The fire was controlled by the hotel’s sprinkler system and contained to the area of origin.

Firefighters arrived at 10:31 a.m. on July 31 to find a smoldering fire in the wall of a guest room on the ground floor. No one was in the room and no injuries were reported.

The fire spread to the surrounding exterior wall, sending smoke into the corridor nearby.
