“We want to make a difference in our community and keep the environment clean” said Joey Graham, a 4th grader at White Oak Elementary.

A small group of 4th graders came up with the idea of picking up in Sugar Hill. The City of Sugar Hill will partner with Target, Kona Ice, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and other schools to implement Student Clean-up Day. This volunteer event will take place on June 15th from 2pm to 5pm at Gary Pirkle Park.

Teachers Matt Smith and Nick Boyers are leading the efforts of the 4th graders.

Boyers states, “we believe giving students ownership and choice over their learning goes a long way toward motivating, engaging, and allowing students to take their learning to a deeper level. When teachers give students the opportunity to look at content through a lens that is relevant to them the result is a learning experience that lasts a lifetime."
