Peachtree Ridge, North Gwinnett Lose Football Openers

Gwinnett teams go 1-3 Saturday in the Corky Kell Classic.

Suwanee teams went 0-2 Saturday in high school football openers.

Peachtree Ridge lost to Walton 26-14 and North Gwinnett lost 26-17 to McEachern in the Corky Kell Classic in the Georgia Dome.

In earlier Kell games Saturday, Grayson topped Kell 7-0 and Lassiter knocked off Brookwood 14-6.

In the evening's final game, touchdown runs of nine and four yards by Peachtree Ridge's Diandre Atwater were not enough. Walton scored on an 80-yard touchdown run by Tyren Jones and an 89-yard punt return by Dakota Richardson to pull away in the second half.

Earlier, North Gwinnett led with two minutes to play, but McEachern QB Trent Richardson led his team on a 75-yard scoring drive to take a 20-17 lead with 10 seconds to play.

Then, North QB Scott Hosch had his pass intercepted by C.J. Cody, who returned it 39 yards for a touchdown to account for the final score.

Earlier, Hosch had scoring passes of 21 and 28 yards to Chad Scott to give the Bulldogs the lead.
