Suwanee High School Football Practice Opens Monday

School starts in Gwinnett County next week, but another important date is at hand: football practice can start Monday, Aug. 1, at Gwinnett schools, according to Mike Emery, athletic director for GCPS.

Collins Hill, Peachtree Ridge and North Gwinnett squads can begin preparations for the 2011 season, which begins later this month.

North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge are the first Suwanee schools to open play, as they are in the Corky Kell Classic in the Georgia Dome on Saturday, Aug. 20. North faces McEachern of Powder Springs at 5:30 p.m., and Peachtree Ridge faces Walton at 8:30 p.m. Grayson and Brookwood are the other Gwinnett teams in the Kell event.

Collins Hill and Peachtree Ridge both open at Roswell: the Eagles on Aug. 26, the Lions on Sept. 2.

The first intra-city game is Sept. 16, when Collins Hill hosts North Gwinnett.

Collins Hill is coming off an outstanding season; the Eagles made it to the Class AAAAA state semifinals before losing to eventual champion and Gwinnett rival Brookwood.
