Suwanee High School Football Predictions: Week 4

Will Peachtree Ridge, Collins Hill win this week?

I was humbled a bit last week in my predictions of high-school football games played in Patch coverage areas from Stone Mountain to Cumming.

After a can-you-believe-it 21-3 record the first week, I cooled off to a 16-6 mark last week (38-9 overall). I only missed badly on one pick. Really.

So, let's lace 'em up for another week. Are you ready?

Newnan at Peachtree Ridge: This is an intriguing game between two programs that are usually in the playoff mix. Peachtree Ridge (1-1) righted whatever went wrong in the Corky Kell Classic in the Georgia Dome (a 26-14 loss to Walton) by thoroughly dominating Roswell 31-2 last week. The game wasn’t even that close, to tell you the truth. Newnan, a second-round qualifier in last year’s Class AAAAA playoffs, is 1-0 after a 27-6 win over usually tough LaGrange. The Lions looked too good last week to pick against them this week. Peachtree Ridge 27, Newnan 21.

Collins Hill at M.L. King (Hallford Stadium): The Collins Hill Eagles (1-1) go from the Class AAAAA defending champ Brookwood (a 24-7 loss) last week to one of this year’s favorites in M.L. King this Friday. MLK  (1-0), which beat South Gwinnett 33-23 last week, has the tools to put up points. But Collins Hill can run and pass, and may have the better defense. The Lions have a trump card in quarterback Jonquel Dawson, who accounted for 225 yards and three touchdowns against South Gwinnett. M.L. King 27, Collins Hill 24.
