North Gwinnett girls soccer team extends winning streak to six to earn the home field advantage in state playoffs.

North Gwinnett (15-3, 6-1) won its sixth game in a row Wednesday, beating 7-AAAAA foe Mill Creek 2-1 in the second overtime to claim the home field advantage in the opening round of the girls soccer state playoffs on Tuesday.
Caroline Gualdoni’s header in the 89th minute clinched the victory over No. 6 Mill Creek. Central defender Abigail Groth scored North's only other goal on a high shot from 25 yards.
BASEBALL

Zach Nolan broke up a close ball game with an 11th inning RBI to lead host North Gwinnett past Collins Hill 5-4 on Monday in a Region 7-AAAAA contest.
Alex Kimble led the offense with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate. Seth Bancroft added three hits and Ryan Hagan went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer.

Michael Gustafson picked up his second win in relief. He pitched 61⁄3 innings and struck out nine batters. The Bulldogs (13-10, 8-7) closed out the week with a 9-3 win over host Mountain View.
Trailing by three runs, North Gwinnett battled back to take the lead on a sixth-inning, two-run homer off the bat of Brian Woodruff. Cole Willoughby belted a two-run double in the seventh to add to the lead.
Brandon White (4-1) was the winning pitcher. He scattered eight hits while striking out six.
BOYS SOCCER
Adam Printz recorded four goals and three assists Tuesday and Ronnie Adams added four goals to lead North Gwinnett (6-7) to a 15-6 win over host Duluth on Tuesday.
Joe Whitaker and James Shimkus each scored a pair of goals for the Bulldogs and Cooper Herren saved eight shots at keeper.
Brandon Eckart and Charlie Hall each scored two goals for the Bulldogs.
GIRLS LACROSSE
North Gwinnett slipped past Duluth 8-7 Tuesday with the help of five goals by Ashleigh Clark, who also collected eight ground balls. Keeper Mehndi Patel saved 12 shots. Katie Varret added eight ground balls and a goal.
PEACHTREE RIDGE
BOYS SOCCER
Peachtree Ridge shut out visiting Mountain View 5-0 Monday as Chris Cook scored three goals for the Lions (14-2, 5-2). Jeremy Rector and Juan Herrera added one goal each. With the win, the Lions clinched the No. 2 spot in the sub region.
GIRLS TENNIS
The Peachtree Ridge (16-1) girls breezed through the opening round of the Class AAAAA state tennis playoffs Tuesday, blanking Woodstock Tuesday, 3-0. The Lions advanced to face the winner of the Alpharetta-Grayson match next week.
Jessica Northcutt and Mary Jeremiah gave the Lions wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively while the No. 1 doubles team of Ali Mill and Abby Owens triumphed at No. 1 doubles.
Peachtree Ridge boys bowed out of the state Class AAAAA tennis playoffs Tuesday, losing a 3-2 thriller to Lassiter. Alex Makarenko gave the Lions a win at No.1 singles and Jacob Kukler and Ian Krpo were winners for Peachtree Ridge at No. 1 doubles.
BOYS LACROSSE
A stout defensive performance by Peachtree Ridge keeper Greg Rose, who had 11 saves Tuesday, helped the Lions defeat visiting Woodstock 11-8.
Cory Hall scored five goals to pace the Lions (12-2). Michael Ruffcorn chipped in with two goals and an assist and Tanner Botts added a goal and an assist. Tyler Boots had three assists and a goal.
COLLINS HILL
BOYS LACROSSE
Etowah High School roughed up Collins Hill (6-6, 4-0) 14-2 Tuesday. Keeper Alex Squires finished with 19 saves for the Lions. Abe Heller scored one goal and assisted on another.
Collins Hill ended the week by dropping a non-region game to visiting Loganville. Friday, 8-4. Conner Shovelski was the only Collins Hill player with two hits. Both teams finished with six hits on the night.
Collins Hill paid tribute last week to 12 outstanding senior athletes who have signed scholarships. The group includes six soccer players: Josh Fancher (Berry), Zak Wallingford (Berry), Dominic Bonilla (Akron), Lindsay Leonardo (Georgia State), Leah Brooke Beasley (Georgia State), and Lauren Hoover (Armstrong Atlantic). Also awarded baseball scholarships were A.J. Farris (Marshall), Morgan Owenby (Georgia College and State University) and Cameron Starling (Andrew College). Softball players signing scholarships were Brianna Cason (Anderson University), Aerika Miles (Tallahassee Community College) and Chelsea Littlejohn (Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College).
