Town Center Park and Everett's Music Barn both have events Saturday.

Updated April 15

Suwanee was alive musically Saturday.

About 2 p.m., bluegrass performers took the stage at Everett's Music Barn, the venerable facility on Stonecypher Road.

A short distance away at , the bands Yacht Rock Schooner and Yacht Rock Revue began a retro rock show about 3:30 p.m., as part of Atlanta's Greatest Hits Birthday Bash.

So this was how Saturday began for Tommy Everett, soundman and curator at the music barn: he found something interesting on the porch when he swang by in the morning.

There were five cases of water. Underneath was a plastic bag. Enclosed in the plastic bag was a CD of the group The Boxcars. Also in the plastic bag was $50 cash.

"Thanks for all the great music!," read the note on the bag. It was signed by Suwanee residents Sylvia and Terry Gilbreath.

"They know this place well enough that they can leave it here," Tommy Everett said. "Nobody's gonna steal it."

The afternoon/evening of music at the barn officially began with the group Sarge, Randy & The Privates. Seven other performers were scheduled, with Brian Stephens & The All Stars to wind up the evening beginning at 9 p.m. A supper break was scheduled for 5 p.m., pot-luck style. Also, the barn's new Gwinnett-based owners served a barbecue lunch, for donations.

This year the event was moved to April, for more comfortable weather. And there's talk of a second all-day benefit in the fall.

The owners, who took over in 2011, have been working to raise the facility's profile. Family members are hoping to attract more Suwanee residents.

"Used to on Saturday nights, only 2-3 people from Suwanee raised their hands," recalled Diane Everett Dunaway. "Most were from south of Atlanta."

Suwanee Patch will have more coverage of these events.
