Suwanee To Roll Out Bike-Sharing Program

The program, which will start with two bicycle stations, is the first of its kind in Gwinnett County.

SUWANEE, GA — Suwanee officials want to help folks see the city from atop two wheels.

A new, bike-sharing program — the first of its kind in Gwinnett County — will be rolled out on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Town Center Park.

Bike station structures have been installed at Suwanee Creek Park and Town Center Park, each housing up to eight bicycles.

Five bikes will start out at both stations, and residents and visitors may check them out for free for up to three hours.

They'll cost $3 an hour after that, with a maximum fee of $30 for all-day use.

Users will be able to rent bikes via a smartphone app. All riders must be at least 18 years old and have to provide their own helmets.

The program is co-sponsored by CIGNA and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

"As an organization dedicated to health and wellness, we believe in programs that encourage families to be active," said Children's Healthcare of Atlanta community development officer Annie Valenty. "This bike program will undoubtedly foster the importance of regular family recreation to all in the community."

The bicycles and stations will be maintained by Zagster, a company that runs bike-share programs for cities, universities, businesses and private properties.

The Zagster system is currently used in places including the City of Alpharetta, Town Center CID and the City of Smyrna.

Signs at the bike stations will explain how the check-out process works.

Those interested may visit zagster.com/suwanee for answers to questions about usage, fees, station locations and the like.
