What Are Most Dangerous Intersections in Suwanee?

Police technology spots the trends. Also, accidents were down in 2011, despite police having no radar.

Suwanee Police have technology available that allows them to spot dangerous traffic areas, including the times of day that are most accident-prone.

The latest information, which was described to City Council at a recent work session, shows the following intersections with the most crashes:

  • Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road/I-85 South (ramps)
  • Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road/Sawmill Drive
  • Peachtree Industrial Boulevard/Moore Road, Eva Kennedy Road
  • Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road/Horizon Drive

Also, technology shows that accidents most often occur in the city on Monday evenings and Wednesday-Friday mornings.

In all, vehicle accidents were down in 2011 from 2010, police report. The figure is 1,087, down from 1,158, a 6.1 percent decrease. Suwanee Police were unable to use radar or laser for all of 2011, because of the Service Delivery Strategy negotiations. Police began using the technology again on March 5, 2012.

Police data show that DUI arrests declined sharply in February 2012 from a year earlier. The information:

  • Accidents: 79
  • Total injuries: 17
  • DUI arrests: 5
  • DUI related accidents: 1
  • Total traffic arrests: 60

February 2011:

  • Accidents: 70
  • Total injuries: 21
  • DUI arrests: 15
  • DUI related accidents: 1
  • Total traffic arrests: 61
