Will Texas A&M Be a Lucky 13 for SEC?

Texas A&M has been accepted into the Southeastern Conference, pending the resolution of some legal disputes.

This is interesting for several reasons:

-- It opens Texas, a state with strong football interest and tradition, to the SEC, which has won the past five BCS titles. In fact, Texas in 2005 was the last team to win the BCS title before the current SEC streak.

-- It means the SEC could have an unbalanced league for scheduling purposes, such as seven teams in the SEC West. Then that begs the question: is a 14th team in the wings, one that would join the SEC East?

-- It creates an interesting rivalry with Alabama. Former Tide coaches Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings and Dennis Franchione all were at Texas A&M before going to Tuscaloosa.
