Busy Month for Tucker Historical Society

Browning Courthouse Day was enjoyed by many last Saturday and there's more to come this weekend.

By Harry & Kathy Powell

October is proving to be a very busy month for us! Browning Courthouse Day was enjoyed by manyΒ visiting the historic courthouse, examining the archives, attending the Genealogy Workshop,Β touring the butterfly garden, visiting the quilt show and enjoying the great music by Tom Hill and the Midnight Suns.Β

DeKalb County Commissioner Stan Watson stopped by for a while and even got on the stage and gave his voice to sing a little blues with the band. The quilt show showcased 12 quilts and was well received with many asking ifΒ it would be included next year - we said yes. QuiltsΒ of all kinds were displayed; Vicki Watkins broughtΒ the oldestΒ quilt,Β made in 1870 by her husband's grandmotherΒ and the newestΒ wasΒ made one month agoΒ by a youngΒ mother, Veronica VvongΒ for the birth of her second child. Keep the Quilt Show in mind to show your quilt next year!Β Β  Β

Now this week, Tucker Historical Society will haveΒ a booth at the 3rd Annual DeKalb International Food and Music Festival this Saturday, Oct. 19 from 12 noonΒ to 6 p.m.Β The free event will be held at Northlake Mall in front of Macy's (in the parking lot).Β By the invitation of Commissioner Watson, Harry Powell and leaders from other Tucker organizations have served on this year'sΒ festival committee to helpΒ spread the word about this event. Β

Funds raisedΒ from sponsors of this eventΒ go towardΒ an Auxillary groupΒ who helps purchaseΒ neededΒ equipment for the DeKalb Police and DeKalb Fire Department. Β

Tucker Historical Society members and friends are allΒ invited to come out and explore our internationalΒ friends and neighborsΒ offerings of cultural food and music found within DeKalbΒ County and the Atlanta area. If the weather is good, our boothΒ will have some of our archives on display and other items to share with festival attendees.Β

We would appreciate volunteers to help at the booth, if you can give justΒ an hour of your time, please respond below and let us know asap! Set up of booths starts at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

We know this event coincides withΒ Taste of TuckerΒ on Main Street, so there is definitelyΒ a lot ofΒ food and cultureΒ to go around and to enjoy at both events.
