DeKalb Schools Show Gains in Year-End Tests

A few DeKalb County Schools had 100 percent proficiency in subjects, while multiple schools had double-digit increases in test scores.

Schools in the DeKalb County School District showed important gains in the recently released end-of-course-tests results, according to a release on the district website

β€œWe are proud of the gains seen across the district,” said Michael Thurmond, superintendent of the DeKalb County School District. β€œWork remains to be done, but we have set standards and built a foundation focusing on growth and achievement for the new school year.”

β€œThe overall proficiency levels for both Coordinate Algebra and Analytic Geometry need greater improvement,” said Thurmond. β€œThis indicates a need for more rigorous intervention in improving performance in mathematics, and we are responding with actions that will address this need.”

The district has established a set of strategies that will incorporate teacher training, more critical thinking skills for students, and additional student practice time in the new school year.
