Donate to DeKalb County School Supply Drive

You can drop off school supplies for DeKalb County elementary school students at area fire stations this week.

The DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department will collect donated school supplies for DeKalb County elementary school students this week.

The initiative runs from Monday, July 28, to Monday, Aug. 4, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Donated items will be placed in backpacks and given to students.

Donors should drop off the school supplies at the nearest DeKalb County fire station, and locations can be found on the department’s website.

The campaign began as a partnership between the fire department, the DeKalb County Black Firefighters Association and the DeKalb County Professional Firefighters.

The fire department is requesting the following items:

- Backpack

- Elmer’s school glue

- Glue sticks

- Blunt safety tip scissors

- Number 2 pencils – NOT mechanical

- Highlighters

- Dry erase markers

- Washable markers

- Colored pencils

- Pencil pouch with zipper

- 24/32/48 count crayons

- Large erasers

- Ruler

- Wide ruled notebook paper

- Black and white composition books

- Construction paper

- Spiral notebook

- Index cards

- 1.5 inch binders with pockets

- 3 prong folders with pockets

- Hand sanitizer

- Anti-bacterial hand soap

- Box of Kleenex

- Paper towels

- Ziplock-type bags – sandwich/quart/gallon
