Making a habit of making habits in five steps
August 27, 2013 by gretacoco Leave a Comment (Edit)Habits are habit forming, ok I am being silly. We often allow ourselves to fall into habits unconsciously and end up with habits that aren’t healthy or don’t benefit us or both. I see people fall into the habit of not working out all the time. The thinking behind the habit is often well I ruined it, I was working out consistently and then I went on vacation (insert interrupting event) and now I am out of shape, I will start back up tomorrow. The habit is started at this point because now we are reinforcing the behavior of not working out by, you guessed it, not working out. If you want to start working out the first time you acknowledge you are not working out do the following:
1. Notice your thoughts and how self defeating they are.
2. The challenge those and insert motivational and positive thoughts
3. Start immediately
4. Reward yourself
5. Do it again
Habits can be good or bad for us I am a fan of encouraging the healthy habits in myself and others. If you find yourself trying to start a good habit and not pulling it off be good to your self don’t “yell at you”, don’t get mad at yourself. Forgive yourself and recommit to the habit.
