There is no doubt that Music MidtownΒ is a wonderful event to have in Atlanta. But this past weekend's event, combined with rain on Saturday, turned the fields where the bands played into mud pits. Β
On fields where game park rules prohibit game playΒ if the grass is merely wet, we had thousands of festival-goers grinding the once pristine two-inch thickΒ turf into a pulp. Β
Furthermore, this being fall, the grass will go dormant soon so don't look for new green shoots popping up to cover over the problem. It will take six to nineΒ months and thousands of dollars to restore the fields and make them useable again.
That's too high a price to pay. MusicΒ MidtownΒ needs to move to the open lots, parking areas, or open spacesΒ still found throughout the midtown area.Β
