News Nearby: Pedestrian Killed Trying to Cross Stone Mountain Highway

A Lilburn man was killed Wednesday night, Feb. 5, trying to cross Stone Mountain Highway in unincorporated Stone Mountain, Gwinnett Police reported.

Neal Patel, 29, was crossing the highway near Glen Club Drive when he stepped in the path of a 1994 Acura driven by Joseph Mondoux, 20. The incident happened in the far left westbound lane of the highway.

Gwinnett Police spokesman Ed Ritter said Patel was outside the crosswalk. Patel died at the scene.

“Investigators have determined that alcohol and speed aren’t contributing causes in this accident,” Ritter said in an email. “There are no charges pending and this investigation continues.”
