Pre-K and Kindergarten Students Raise $1,000 to Purchase Food for Those in Need

(LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.) Primrose School of Five Forks four and five-year-olds pushed shopping carts, scanned shelves and filled grocery bags with non-perishable foods for the less fortunate families in Atlanta on their field trip to Publix on Thursday, November 20th. All purchases will be donated to the Salvation Army on December 5th, to bring a warm meal to local families in need.

This donation comes when American families find themselves in critical need. One in six Americans face hunger and many turn to food banks such as the Salvation Army. According to the USDA, about 49 million people – including 16 million children – are struggling with hunger in the U.S.

Children at Primrose School of Five Forks have spent the past month completing extra chores at home to earn money for families in need. After combining their earnings totaling $500, school owner, Gil Benjamin, matched the amount bringing the total shopping budget to $1000. The children created a detailed shopping list for the grocery store were ready to shop!

As part of the Balanced Learning® Curriculum, Primrose Schools’ Caring and Giving program helps to create a hands-on approach to math, nutrition and planning skills.
