Body Recovered After Boating Accident on Allatoona Lake (UPDATED)

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services said another male remains unaccounted for.

CANTON, GA -- The body of a man has been recovered from Allatoona Lake Thursday afternoon following a boating collision near Canton.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services crews were dispatched to a call of the two-boat accident just before 1 p.m. to the lake near Little River Marina on Bells Ferry Road. They arrived on the scene to find a fisherman who pulled a 68-year-old male onto his boat, agency spokesperson Tim Cavender said.

That man, who was conscious and alert on the scene, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment.

Two additional men were unaccounted for, so members of the Cherokee County Dive Team took to the waters as part of the search and recovery efforts. Around 4 p.m., the team made a grim discovery when they recovered the body of a 54-year-old male from the lake, Cavender said.

The third and final individual remains missing. Crews had to suspend search and recovery operations at 6 p.m. Thursday, but will resume the search at 8 a.m. Friday, Cavender added.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and the Georgia State Patrol both assisted in the operation.

The identity of the man found deceased won't be released until his next of kin have been notified.
