3 Dead In Fiery Crash On I-75 In Cherokee County (UPDATED)

An SUV traveling northbound veered off the interstate, continued down an embankment, crashed into a tree and caught fire.

ACWORTH, GA -- Three people were killed Tuesday morning when an SUV crashed into a tree and erupted into flames along Interstate 75 in Cherokee County.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the crash at 6:43 a.m. Nov. 14 on the northbound side just north of the Woodstock Road overpass. A preliminary investigation indicates an SUV traveling northbound "veered off to the right side of the interstate," said sheriff's office spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley.

The vehicle continued down an embankment and crashed into a tree. The vehicle caught fire, and the three occupants inside the SUV were all pronounced dead on the scene of the collision, Sgt. Kelley added.

Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is conducting the investigation into the cause of the accident and working to identify the victims.
