Woodstock 4th of July 2017: Fireworks Spectacular, Parade

Woodstock's annual Fourth of July celebration will also include a festival and the Woodstock Freedom Run.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Woodstock's celebration of Independence Day is here and organizers are busy putting the final touches on one of its most popular events of the year.

Weather forecasts call for a chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday, but the National Weather Service says the best chances for storms will be between noon and 6 p.m. By Tuesday night, the chance of rain is 30 percent, and that will most likely happen before 7 p.m., letting fireworks displays go off as planned.

Woodstock's July 4th Spectacular kicks off at 7:45 a.m. July 4 with the 21st annual Woodstock Freedom Run, will take runners and walkers alike through a scene route of downtown Woodstock. For the race, the city will close Main Street and Rope Mill Road from Woodstock Elementary School to Highway 92 between 7 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.

Following the race, the fun continues with the annual July 4th parade. The parade starts at 10 a.m., and participants will march south from Woodstock Elementary School on Rope Mill Road to Main Street where they will continue until they reach Sam's Club just north of Highway 92.

As with the race, the city will close Main Street and Rope Mill Road from the school to the state highway from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the parade. Additionally, there will also be roadblocks at the following intersections: Main Street at Sam's Club (just north of Highway 92), Serenade Lane, Bowles Drive, Ingram Street, Barnesdale Terrace, Dupree Road, Fowler Street, Oak Street, Elm Street, Mill Street and Dobbs Road; Arnold Mill Road at Hubbard Road, East Main Street and Main Street; Rope Mill Road at Woodstock Elementary School, Kyle Street and Rusk Street; and Towne lake Parkway at Woodstock Parkway and Main Street.

Once the parade wraps up, the fun continues at the Park at City Center with the July 4th Festival. You, your friends or your family can experience music, food arts and crafts, kids' activities much more. During the festival, Memory Dean will provide live music from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.

The day of celebration will end with a fireworks show beginning at dusk behind the Target shopping center in the area of Woodstock Square Avenue. The city anticipates a high volume of vehicular traffic on the road due to the event.

At the end of the show, the Woodstock Police Department will direct motorists to comply with the following:

  • All traffic parked south of Highway 92 (including Super Target, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Lowe’s, Molly Lane and Woodstock Square Avenue) will be directed to turn right onto Highway 92 and travel east.
  • All traffic parked north of Highway 92 (including The Home Depot, Big Lots, Hennessey Honda, and IHOP) will be directed to turn right onto Highway 92 and travel west.
  • No left turns or U-turns will be permitted on Highway 92 during or after the scheduled event until the streets and parking lots are clear.
