adidas To Create 160 New Jobs In Cherokee County

The footwear company plans to open a new production facility in 2017.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Footwear manufacturer adidas has announced plans to open a production site in Cherokee County, a move that will create roughly 160 new jobs.

According to the company's news release, SPEEDFACTORY will open in 2017 and it to create products "more quickly and closer to U.S. consumers."

The more than 74,000-square-foot factory is expected to be up and running during the latter half of 2017.

Cherokee Office of Economic Development President Misti Martin said the company's outpost will open in the Cherokee 75 Corporate Park along Highway 92 just east of Interstate 75.

“Georgia offers industry leaders such as adidas the necessary resources to compete worldwide,” said Gov. Nathan Deal. “Our state is emerging as a sports corridor for Southeastern U.S., and our business-friendly climate will be a match for adidas’ new operation. We look forward to working with our partners in Cherokee County and the Metro Atlanta Chamber to support adidas in future growth.”

Marshall Day, chairman of the COED board of directors, also praised the news, noting adidas is a company "dedicated to innovation, quality, and sustainability, as is Cherokee County.

He also said the county appreciates the chance to work with state and regional partners on this "exciting venture."

Hala Moddelmog, president and CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, said adidas' announcement also solidifies the region as a "gateway for global business."

“We're thrilled to see the leading footwear brand will increase its current Atlanta workforce with the creation of 160 new jobs," Moddelmog added.
