Baby Dies After Being Hit By Car In Downtown Woodstock

BREAKING: The infant was being carried by her mother when a vehicle hit the pair and a family friend as they crossed Arnold Mill Road.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Saturday's evening pedestrian accident has claimed the life of one of the three victims who were transported to the hospital following the collision along Arnold Mill Road in downtown Woodstock. Riley Hunt, a three-month-old baby girl, was pronounced dead at the hospital, said Cherokee Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley.

Riley was being carried by her mother, 28-year-old Kaitlyn Hunt of Port St. Lucie, Florida, when they and 61-year-old Kathy Deming were struck by a Jeep Patriot driven by 17-year-old Zoe Reardon of Atlanta. Sgt. Kelley said Deming was a family friend of the Hunts (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).

While Woodstock police were initially dispatched to the scene, Sgt. Kelley said the Cherokee Sheriff's Office's Traffic Enforcement Unit was requested to conduct the investigation into the collision. A preliminary report suggests the group was trying to cross Arnold Mill Road in the area of the Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater when they were hit by the vehicle.

Saturday's accident was reported shortly after the start of the final show of the 2017 Woodstock Summer Concert Series. Mayor Donnie Henriques said everyone with the city is "heartbroken" about the accident.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone involved," he added.

In response to questions and concerns from residents about the presence of officers throughout the area during the concert, city spokesperson Brittany Duncan said Woodstock police have personnel assigned to Hubbard Road and other locations to help those crossing the street before the show and as the concert starts to wind down until the crowd has left the venue. During the concert, personnel are assigned to patrol in and around the amphitheater. This particular accident, the agency added, was reported 45 minutes after Runway June's show kicked off.
