Burglary Suspect Shot In Head By Homeowner Identified
The 19-year-old man was found outside the home on Santa Fe Trail in Woodstock early Thursday morning, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said.

WOODSTOK, GA -- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has released new details about the shooting of a man accused of trying to break into a home early Thursday morning. Deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress call around 2:40 a.m. Nov. 16 at a home on Santa Fe Trail, which is located off Highway 92 east of Bells Ferry Road.
Deputies arrived on the scene to find the suspect, 19-year-old Donavan Simmons, 19, of Acworth, lying in the backyard of the home with a gunshot wound to the head, said sheriff's office spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley.
Sgt. Kelley said Simmons was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital where he's listed in stable condition.

"The homeowner advised that the suspect was making entry into the basement area of his home when he shot in the general direction of the suspect," she added.
No one inside the home was injured, and the sheriff's office's Criminal Investigation Division will continue its investigation into the motive of the break-in.

Sgt. Kelley said charges for Simmons are pending, but no other warrants are expected to be taken out in connection with the case at this time.
