Burn Ban Lifted In Cherokee County
Due to a lack of rain and record-breaking temperatures, Cherokee Fire will be monitoring the fire danger closely and could resume the ban.
CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Oct. 1 was the first day of the outdoor burning season in Cherokee County, as allowed by the Georgia Forestry Commission.
Burn Permit information is posted on the Cherokee County Fire Department’s website under Fire Marshal/Permits/Burn Permits.
Georgia Forestry is responsible for issuing Residential Burn Permits. Daily burn permits are subject to denial due to weather conditions and any burn ban restrictions as determined by the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Due to a persistent lack of rain and record-breaking temperatures, the fire department will be monitoring the fire danger closely and may extend the outdoor burning ban until we receive a notable amount of rain. If the burn ban is to be extended, an additional informational release will be posted.
Residential Burn Permits shall be acquired on a daily basis and are subject to weather restrictions. Residential burn permits are issued for hand piled natural vegetation only (see Residential Burn Permit Guidelines) and cannot include construction debris, tires, plastics, and other man-made material. The issuing of these permits is dependent on the location within the county where you would like to burn.

- Prior to proceeding with any permit request, please confirm daily that weather conditions are appropriate for outdoor burning in Cherokee County by checking the burn permit status web page on the Georgia Forestry Commission site at Georgia Forestry Commission.
- If the residential burn location is located in Unincorporated Cherokee County a burn permit must be obtained via the Georgia Forestry Commission website or by calling 877-652-2876 (877ok2burn). Proceed to the permit area and obtain a Burn Authorization Permit.
