Chattahoochee Tech Foundation Raises Record Amount For Students

ACWORTH, GA — The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation raised over $72,000 at its annual Reverse Raffle fundraiser held recently at the college’s North Metro Campus, setting a new record for the amount of funds generated by this popular event to help Chattahoochee Tech students in need.

“We’re thrilled with this year’s success because this event funds vital programs like emergency grants,” said Chattahoochee Tech Advancement Coordinator Amanda Henderson. “Many students in an emergency situation face the decision of paying an unexpected bill or staying enrolled in class. With the community’s support through this fundraiser, we’re able to help students finish school and enter the workforce.”

This year’s $5,000 grand prize winner at the Reverse Raffle was Jeannetta Jordan, of Jeannetta Design Associates, a full-service design group headquartered in Cherokee County. Unlike a typical raffle, the purchaser of the last ticket drawn wins the grand prize, according to Susan Stephens, the event’s committee chair and secretary of the Chattahoochee Tech Foundation Board of Trustees.

The event also featured a silent auction, 50/50 Raffle and door prizes, Stephens said, with items donated by local businesses and members of the community.

“It was a fun and exciting evening, and all the participants at this sold-out event really enjoyed having the opportunity to support a great cause,” Stephens said. “We are truly thankful for our supporters in the community, and we look forward to hosting this event again next year.”

The 2019 Reverse Raffle featured a Hollywood theme with entertainment provided by Atlanta DJ Mark McCain, formerly of 96 Rock, and Emcee Louis Tonsmeire, of Cartersville. Delivering remarks on behalf of Chattahoochee Tech scholarship recipients was Jonathan Scarpinato, a student in the college’s Diesel Equipment Technology program.

“I would like to thank the Ed Voyles Automotive Group and the Yancey Brothers Foundation for everything they have helped me with,” Scarpinato said. “When I received these scholarships, I was able to buy the tools I needed. This kept me out of tool debt, which is something a lot of student technicians struggle with.”

This year’s sponsors represented a broad spectrum of local companies, with Platinum Sponsors each contributing $3,500, Gold Sponsors each donating $2,500, and Silver Sponsors each giving $1,500. During Fiscal Year 2019, the Chattahoochee Tech Foundation awarded $92,000 in scholarship funds to well-deserving students, according to Chattahoochee Tech Director of Advancement Stephanie Hubbell. The Foundation also issued $8,000 emergency grant funds to help students at risk of not continuing their education due to unexpected financial dilemmas and provided $4,600 in textbooks, bus passes, and temporary housing to students in need.
