Cherokee Fire Lieutenant Retires After 19 Years Of Service

From Cherokee FD: Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services hosted a luncheon at the Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant yesterday to honor Lt. Gerald Richmond, who is retiring from the fire department after more than 19 years of service.

After lunch, Cherokee County Fire Chief, Tim Prather, came forward to thank Richmond for his commitment and service to the citizens of Cherokee County and then presented Richmond with his “bugle” award. Richmond came to work for Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services on January 4th , 1999 and was promoted to Sergeant in October of 2004. Four years later, Richmond earned the rank of Lieutenant. According to Richmond, “My family and I are moving to Florida. June 1st is when we become Florida residents. For me, this has always been where my heart is. It just took 24 years to get the guts up to make it happen. There are no guarantees in life, regardless of how secure things may be. We are not promised tomorrow, and that realization makes it that much more important to do the things that make you happy. That makes you who you are and what you desire to be. I can't wait to share this part of me with my family. We will never know if we don't try.”

We wish Lt. Gerald Richmond and his family safe travels to Florida and we thank him for his 19 years of service to the citizens of Cherokee County.
