Cherokee Firefighters Donate $1,000 To Children's Haven

From Cherokee FD:Cherokee County Firefighters traveled to the Cherokee Children’s Haven this morning to make a donation to the organization.

The Cherokee Children’s Haven opened its doors on November 2, 2015 and was created to give foster kids the opportunity to succeed by bringing a variety of support programs under one roof. The not-for-profit evolved from the organization originally known as CASA for Children, Inc. The new Children’s Haven name better encompasses all of the services provided for foster children. According to Marcie Smith, Executive Director, “The Children’s Haven is so grateful for the kind and generous support from the Cherokee County fire fighters. The funds raised will be used to support programming that serves children in foster care in our community. Our team is so moved by the donation and the firefighters who share a heart for our mission.”

“Each year the officers of the first battalion host a dinner for the firefighters and their families just to show our appreciation for their hard work. We decided to do something for a local organization so our chiefs donate prizes for a raffle that we do at the dinner and the money we receive goes to the Cherokee Children’s Haven,” stated Capt. Nathan Roper.

Cherokee County firefighters donated $1,056 and the funds were raised internally from this raffle. “They raffled off services (like making breakfast for your family) to share their time, talents, and resources in an effort to raise needed funds for our organization. They are so wonderful,” added Smith.
