Cherokee Rose Society Hosts New State President

Local Children's Lineage Society Hosted Tea Party to Welcome New C.A.R. State President

On Saturday, July 11, eighty-one members from the Georgia State Society Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Georgia State Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and Georgia State Sons of the Revolution (S.R.) to welcome and honor the new Georgia State Society President, Miss Abby Garnett. Held at the Indian Hills Country Club, located in Marietta, Georgia, the Tea Party was hosted by the local Cherokee Rose Society, C.A.R. Thirty-seven society members, including several senior leaders that belong to neighboring DAR chapters, helped plan the event.

Cherokee Rose Society President Anderson Wheatley hosted the “everything is coming up Roses” themed-event. He introduced C.A.R. State President Garnett, who was warmly welcomed by DAR State Regent Bea Fischer, DAR State Coordinator of Districts Lynn Brackey, the attendees from nine DAR, three SAR and one S.R. chapter along with one neighboring CAR Society.

C.A.R. Honorary Senior State President Amanda Garnett and CAR Honorary State President Lily Garnett were in attendance and helped State President Garnett present her state project: Fort Hawkins. Fort Hawkins is located in Macon, Georgia and served as a trading post during the American Revolution and an active fort during the War of 1812. She is raising awareness to this notable landmark and funds to help erect a stone sign for the entrance. She also introduced the National Society C.A.R.’s theme: Road to Independence. During her presentation, she was surprised by the guest appearance of “General James Oglethorpe”, Terry Manning, who is the president of the Atlanta Chapter SAR. He came in costume and presented a short program on Georgia Washington’s First Oval Office, discussed Washington’s “Road to Independence” and early Georgia History of Oglethorpe’s years in Georgia.

Mr. Manning was presented by a Certificate of Appreciation for his continued support and promotion of American History by Society President Wheatley.

Society President Anderson Wheatley presented notable guests with gifts of appreciation. On behalf of the Cherokee Rose Society, President Wheatley presented State President Garnett with an $800.00 check for her state project. Guests who attended the event also contributed towards the project.
