Christmas Jubilee, Parade of Lights Set For Saturday

The holidays are in full swing in Woodstock, and the city will soon host two of its popular events to celebrate the Christmas season.

The city’s annual Christmas Jubilee and Parade of Lights will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5.
This year’s parade will kick off at 5:30 p.m. The parade route, which was altered in 2014, will once again start and end at Woodstock Elementary School on Rope Mill Road.

The parade will travel south on Rope Mill Road and continue on Main Street. It will then turn right on Towne Lake Parkway, make a left on Mill Street, a right on Market Street, turn left on Fowler Street and turn left back on Main Street.
Once on Main Street, the parade will continue northbound where it will veer left onto Rope Mill Road and head back to Woodstock Elementary School.
Just before the parade, the 3k Woodstock Christmas Run will take off at 5 p.m. from the Elm Street Event Green through downtown Woodstock and back again to the Green.
Motorists should note that affected roads will close at 4:45 p.m. and will reopen around 7 p.m. For the parade route, Main Street and Rope Mill Road will be closed from Dupree Road to Woodstock Elementary School.
There will also be road blocks at the following intersections: Rope Mill Road at Woodstock Elementary School, Rusk Street and Kyle Street; Main Street just south of Dobbs Road, Rope Mill Road, Towne Lake Parkway, Mill Street, Elm Street, Oak Street, Fowler/East Main and just north of Dupree Road; Arnold Mill Road at Hubbard Drive and Main Street/East Main Street; Towne Lake Parkway at Wall Street, Mill Street and Woodstock Parkway; Mill Street at Pine Hill Drive and Market Street; and Market Street at Elm Street, Oak Street, Maple Street, Fowler Street and just north of Hickory Street.
If you’re looking for something to do before the parade, start the celebration at the Chambers at City Center for Elm Street Cultural Arts Village’s free performance of “A Christmas Carol,” which will start at 2 p.m. Be sure to bring a can of stew, chili, chunky soup or peanut butter as your ticket to the show to benefit Papa’s Pantry.
After the show, you can stop by the park at 4:30 p.m. and have dinner with food vendors who will be waiting to serve you.
Following the parade, the city will host its Annual Christmas Jubilee in the Park at City Center. Here’s what Woodstock has lined up for the festivities:
- Official lighting of the park and the Christmas tree.
- Awards for Best Parade Floats and Preservation Woodstock’s Citizen of the Year
- Free marshmallow roast, with s’ mores and cookies from the Woodstock Jaycees and Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department.
- Free moonwalk
- Ronnie the DJ and food vendors before, during and after the parade.
- Free kids activities in the park provides fun for all ages.
- Movie in the Park at 7:30 p.m. (Short Christmas classics brought to you by Northside Hospital-Cherokee and Southern Outdoor Cinema).
- A chance to donate to the Woodstock Jaycee’s Christmas Toy Drive.
- A chance for the little ones to drop off letters at Santa’s Mailbox at the gazebo, which will be available through Dec. 17.
